Invitations: to splurge or not to splurge?

Um, so first of all, the answer is splurge! Always splurge.

Ok, fine, some people might not think that invitations are worth all the hype. Well my sweets, I am here to tell you otherwise. They are most definitely worth the hype! Why? Where do I begin?!

First of all, there’s something to be said about old fashioned snail mail. I don’t know about you, but I still get giddy every time I check my mailbox and find literally *anything* other than junk mail or a bill. There’s nothing more sweet or thoughtful than (physically) receiving a hand written note, thank you card, or my personal favorite: a wedding invitation! Having something you can hold, post up on your refrigerator, frame, or just throw in a scrapbook to reminisce on years down the road is pretty darn cool. Then again, I’m kinda sentimental like that I guess.

But really. A wedding invitation is the very first glimpse your guests will have of your wedding day. Why NOT make it something special and memorable?!

Think of it this way: a wedding invitation is kind of like an appetizer. You know, a little something to tide you over for the main course—aka your wedding day. When it comes to planning a wedding, as a bride, you’re all like: “these are my colors…” and “this is the theme I am going for…” Well, what better way to introduce a taste of that awesome party you are about to throw than with some super cool, creative, and gorgeous invitations! Let your guests in on the theme, share a little bit of your personality, get creative! I had a bride once match her invitations to her husband-to-be’s tie. OMG. Now THAT is what I am talking about!!!

Of course, there are a few different ways you can go about this whole invitation thing. You can hire and work closely with a professional designer, you can go the “semi-professional/semi-DIY” route (think Minted, Wedding Paper Divas, the like), or you can straight up DIY the crap out of your invites with glitter and glue and twine!

Ultimately, invitations are all about the special touches that make that invite so memorable. Pick some rich, thick paper and do a fancy letterpress invitation.  Get custom stamps made, or do what I did and find some charming vintage stamps! To satisfy your inner-pyro, maybe have a wax seal custom made with your new initials, or family crest! Feeling more of a soft, whimsical, and romantic vibe? Check out vellum wraps. Or maybe add a pop to your envelopes with envelope liners. Look into laser cut, belly bands, and foil pressed invites! Have the envelopes addressed by a calligrapher (I know a gal :)! Seriously, the choices here are literally ENDLESS! I don’t want to overwhelm you with options, my sweets, I just want you to know how much you can truly make this part of the wedding-planning puzzle shine.

You really can’t go wrong when choosing your wedding invitations.  My biggest piece of advise is simple: allow for invitations to be a part of your budget. You will not regret it!
